We met for regular meeting throughout the production of our film. Here is a combination of all of the notes taken from each session.

October 20th 2015- Prelim

  • want to try doing a comedy
  • casting members of our group to get a feel for the acting
  • incorporating match on action as the door is opened
  • baring in mind the 180º rule whilst filming and editing
  • becky to edit, Jamie on camera, Lewis and Ed focusing on lighting and also acting

November 3rd 2015- Prelim & progression

  • enjoyed doing a comedy however we felt that it was hard to be creative with camera angles and keep it funny as well as appropriate
  • Good use of 180º rule and the match on action
  • adjust the camera to check that it is not making unwanted noises
  • good use of soundtrack which fitted well
  • start drafting a questionnaire together for market research to find out the audiences favourite films and to help to choose a target audience
  • we then went on to draft and distribute the questionnaire on social media for other people to fill out

November 14th 2015- Market Research response

  • we looked at the responses to our questionnaire
  • we distributed methods of analysing the data: Ed-write up, Jamie- questionnaire analysis, Becky- market research conclusions
  • Becky and Lewis to then work on researching the BBFC guidelines so that for the next meeting we will be in a position to be choosing and beginning to think about our target audience

November 2oth 2015- Target audience and genre

  • looked at all the data and each contributed our own findings
  • there was preference for horror films with action and romance coming close as well
  • we decided to stick to this based on the research as we felt that it would be more attractive as a more desirable product
  • we saw that all of our answers to our questionnaire were aged 14-18 so we felt that we would go with this demographic as it was our age and our research applied to them
  • decided to do more research into the conventions of the genre

December 2nd 2015- Plot

  • completed initial storyboard
  • becky-think about who we could cast ( someone young to fit to conventions )
  • Applied theorists to the plot
  • plan to film a mobile edit version to test out initial storyboard as well as potential cast
  • began thinking about the pyjamas as costume and the location in an old house

December 10th 2015- Planning

  • discussion about the casting based on the cast write up and the screen tests, concluding that we want to use Sarah and Sean Groarke as our two characters
  • also chose location to be in a modern house, as we discussed how it will better relate to the audience than an old house, also about challenging conventions
  • date set at 19.12.15 for practice phone quality filming
  • work still need to be done on set design, costume and props

January 3rd 2016- Reviewing & improvements

  • improvements made to storyboard and final one drawn up, based on the practice film and edit, didn’t like the formation of some of the scenes but the actors and location seemed to work well
  • need to look more into the lighting and how we can achieve this
  • film date set 5.01.16
  • chosen costume based from the decisions laid out
  • props and set design were discussed and we don’t think that we will need to buy anything in order to make up the set

January 15th 2016- Editing 1

  • seemed to be quite like a trailer
  • cut out the captions
  • need to reference the actors
  • don’t use music throughout as the audience know what to expect before the film even starts
  • liked the lighting and do not feel as thought there needs to be any more filming to achieve the corrections
  • conduct a focus group feedback session and apply this to the editing accordingly

January 17th 2016- Brief focus feedback review

  • happy with the focus feedback in general and confident that we attracting the right audience
  • a few shots were enjoyed although there was a general agreement that an establishing shot of the house should be shown as the first shot so that the audience are aware of the location as well as this being a typical convention

From here on we met every time we had re-edited certain areas for improvement and then we each gave feedback and reviewed focus group feedback, this can be seen under each film draft drop down.
